With the recovery of global new energy vehicle sales, the installed capacity of power battery continues to maintain rapid growth. From January to September this year, the installed capacity of global power batteries reached 197gwh, a year-on-year increase of 128%.
The top ten enterprises are Ningde times, LG new energy, Panasonic, BYD, ski, Samsung SDI, AVIC lithium, GuoXuan high tech, AESC and PEVE, with a total market share of 93.6%.
Most Chinese enterprises have driven the market growth momentum. Ningde times, BYD, AVIC lithium and GuoXuan high tech have achieved triple-digit growth, which is much higher than the market average, and the overall market share has increased; Among Korean enterprises, LG new energy and ski have achieved triple-digit growth, and the growth rate of Samsung SDI is lower than the market average; The growth rate of Panasonic and other Japanese enterprises is far lower than the market average, and most of their share has decreased.
Top 1. Ningde Era
From January to September this year, the global power battery installed capacity of Ningde era reached 60.9gwh, with a market share of 30.9%, a year-on-year increase of 212.3%, of which the installed capacity in September was 10.6gwh, a year-on-year increase of 186.5% and a month-on-month increase of 23.3%.
On October 27, Ningde times released its third quarter results. In the first three quarters, the company achieved a revenue of 73.362 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 132.7%, and a net profit of 7.751 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 130.9%; In the third quarter, the revenue was 29.287 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 132.7%, and the net profit was 3.267 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 130.16%.
In terms of production capacity, Ningde times released several production expansion projects this year, including Zhaoqing project phase I with a total investment of 12 billion yuan, Yibin phase V and VI project with a total investment of 12 billion yuan, Shidai FAW expansion project with a total investment of 5 billion yuan, Shidai SAIC expansion project with a total investment of 10.5 billion yuan, and Yichun new lithium battery project with a total investment of 13.5 billion yuan, In addition, it will set up innovation center, international functional headquarters, high-end manufacturing base, Future Energy Research Institute and other related projects in Shanghai. It is reported that the production capacity is about 80gwh; Xiamen times construction battery project was also established.
So far, Ningde times has established the ninth production base in the global layout, including Fujian Ningde, Jiangsu Liyang, Qinghai Xining, Sichuan Yibin, Guangdong Zhaoqing, Shanghai Lingang, Fujian Xiamen, Jiangxi Yichun and German bases. In addition, the total planned production capacity of Ningde times exceeds 600gwh.
Ningde times also threw out a fixed increase plan of 58.2 billion yuan to raise funds for six projects, such as Fuding times lithium ion battery production base project and Guangdong Ruiqing times lithium ion battery production project phase I, which will add another 137 GWH capacity to Ningde times.
In terms of customers, since this year, Ningde times has locked in a number of long orders, including winning Jinkang new energy's 5-year order, Tesla's 4-year order, signing a 10-year long-term strategic cooperation agreement with great wall motor, winning a 7-year order for Mercedes Benz commercial vehicles, and increasing the supply of BMW, Volkswagen, Hyundai and Rolls Royce.
In terms of cooperation, since this year, Ningde times has reached cooperation with 31 government enterprises, including ATL, Yongfu shares, state power investment, China energy construction, China building materials, Three Gorges group, Mobis, Jingke energy, etc.
Top 2, LG new energy
From January to September this year, LG new energy's global power battery installed capacity reached 46.5gwh, with a market share of 23.6%, a year-on-year increase of 140.9%, of which the installed capacity in September was 7.8gwh, a year-on-year increase of 110.8% and a month-on-month increase of 44.4%.
LG new energy is mainly driven by Tesla Model y (made in China), Volkswagen id.4, Ford Mustang mach-e and other best-selling models, and the installed capacity has achieved rapid growth.
In addition, its customers also include Hyundai, Audi, Jaguar Land Rover, Porsche, Volvo, GM, Chrysler, Renault, etc. 13 of the top 20 auto brands in the world are customers and partners of LG new energy.
In terms of production capacity, LG plans to reach 430gwh by 2025, including 155gwh in the United States, 145gwh in Europe and 130gwh in other joint ventures with China, South Korea and Hyundai Motor Indonesia.
On September 15, the construction of a joint venture battery plant between Hyundai Motor Group and LG new energy in Indonesia started. The plant invested up to US $1.1 billion to mainly produce lithium-ion batteries.
Previously, LG new energy also announced that it would invest about 85 billion yuan in the battery field by 2030, of which 70 billion yuan would be used to develop the next generation battery technology and expand local production capacity, and 15 billion yuan would be used to develop advanced battery materials and strengthen domestic manufacturing capacity.
Top 3, Panasonic
From January to September this year, Panasonic's global power battery installed capacity reached 26gwh, with a market share of 13.2% and a year-on-year increase of 42.1%. Among them, the installed capacity in September was 4.3gwh, a year-on-year increase of 2.4% and a month-on-month increase of 53.6%.
At present, Panasonic has battery factories in Japan, China and the United States. Among them, the existing capacity of American Super factory is 35gwh, and it is planning to further expand or upgrade to 54gwh. In addition, Panasonic also plans to enter Europe and establish its first battery factory in Norway, with a capacity of about 38gwh. It is expected that the total capacity of Panasonic will reach 160gwh by 2025. Panasonic's square battery factory in Dalian currently has a capacity of 5gwh and plans to achieve a capacity of 12gwh in the future; Wuxi plant plans to achieve a capacity of 30gwh in the future.
Top 4, BYD
From January to September this year, BYD's global power battery installed capacity reached 15.4gwh, with a market share of 7.8%, a year-on-year increase of 123.2%, of which the installed capacity in September was 2.9gwh, a year-on-year increase of 81.3% and a month on month increase of 16%.
Recently, media reported that BYD had obtained an order for Tesla 10gwh blade battery, for which BYD said it "would not comment".
In terms of production capacity, another production base of BYD has recently settled in Jinan, Shandong. According to the cooperation agreement signed between Jinan government and BYD, the production capacity of new energy power battery project is about 30gwh, which is constructed in two phases, of which the production capacity of phase I is 15gwh.
BYD currently has 10 production bases, including Shenzhen Baolong, Huizhou Kengzi, Xi'an hi tech, Qinghai Xining, Guizhou Guiyang, Chongqing Bishan, Changsha Ningxiang, Anhui Bengbu, Geely Changchun and Jinan. In addition, BYD has established a joint venture with Chang'an Automobile with a capacity of 10gwh. BYD's total planned capacity exceeds 200gwh.

From January to September this year, ski's global power battery installed capacity reached 10.6gwh, with a market share of 5.4%, a year-on-year increase of 125.5%, of which the installed capacity in September was 1.7gwh, a year-on-year increase of 54.3% and a month-on-month increase of 21.4%.
Ski is mainly equipped with Kia EV, Hyundai IONIQ 5, Hyundai Kona ev (Europe), Mercedes Benz gle PHEV and other best-selling models.
In terms of capacity, ski plans to increase the power battery capacity to 200 GWH in 2025, 60% higher than the previously announced target of 125 GWH, and plans to exceed 500 GWH by 2030.
The second plant in Hungary is planned to be put into operation in the first quarter of 2022, and the third plant will be constructed in the third quarter of this year and put into operation in the third quarter of 2024; Yancheng plant and Huizhou plant in China were put into operation in 2021; The first plant in the United States will be put into operation in the first quarter of 2022 and the second plant will be put into operation in the first quarter of 2023; The joint venture plant with Ford plans to mass produce in 2025 with a capacity of 60gwh; It is expected to enter the peak of production expansion in 2023, and the future increment will mainly come from the United States and Hungary.
Top 6, Samsung SDI
From January to September this year, the global power battery installed capacity of Samsung SDI reached 9gwh, with a market share of 4.6%, a year-on-year increase of 69.8%, of which the installed capacity in September was 1GWh, a year-on-year increase of 25% and a month on month increase of 11.1%.
The sales volume of Fiat 500, Audi e-tron EV, siate Leon PHEV and other models supporting Samsung SDI increased, but the sales volume of Volkswagen e-Golf decreased sharply, which offset the overall growth of battery installed capacity.
At present, Samsung SDI power battery factories are mainly distributed in Ulsan, South Korea, Xi'an, China and Hungary. Previously, Samsung SDI's capacity expansion was slightly conservative and may become more active this year. It is expected that Samsung SDI will increase investment in expanding battery capacity in Xi'an, China and Malaysia, and invest about US $890 million to expand its Hungarian base to double its capacity to 20gwh; In addition, Samsung may build a third standard square cell battery factory for Volkswagen.
Samsung SDI also plans to invest about 1.14 billion yuan to expand the capacity of its Malaysian lithium battery factory, which currently mainly manufactures cylindrical lithium batteries.
Top7. AVIC lithium battery
From January to September this year, the global power battery installed capacity of AVIC lithium battery reached 5.6gwh, with a market share of 2.8%, a year-on-year increase of 229.4%, of which the installed capacity in September was 0.9gwh, a year-on-year increase of 80% and a month-on-month increase of 22.2%.
In the field of passenger cars, as the core supplier of gac-e'an and Chang'an new energy, the supply penetration rate of AVIC lithium battery has increased steadily. At present, AVIC lithium battery has become the largest battery supplier of main models of ai'an, with a matching rate of more than 90%. In addition, AVIC lithium battery has passed the mass production fixed point of smart, and has begun the batch supply of guangben and Guangfeng supporting batteries. In the first half of this year, its new supporting hot-selling models include Hongguang Mini EV, GAC Toyota ia5, aion y, Geely geometry C, etc. Commercial vehicle customers include Xiamen Jinlong, Suzhou Jinlong, Yutong Bus, etc.
In terms of production capacity, AVIC lithium battery has signed a contract to achieve a production capacity of 250gwh, and it is planned to reach 300gwh by 2025, second only to Ningde times and LG. AVIC lithium has set up six production bases in Luoyang, Changzhou, Xiamen, Chengdu, Wuhan and Hefei, with capacity of 10gwh, 70gwh, 50gwh, 50gwh, 20gwh and 50gwh respectively.
This year, AVIC lithium has successively signed Jiangsu Changzhou phase IV project with a total investment of 10 billion yuan, Xiamen 30gwh project, Chengdu base project with a total investment of 28 billion yuan, Wuhan base project with a total investment of 10 billion yuan and Hefei base project with a total investment of 24.8 billion yuan, with a total investment of more than 85 billion yuan.
Top8. GuoXuan high tech
From January to September this year, the global power battery installed capacity of GuoXuan high tech reached 5.6gwh, with a market share of 2.8%, a year-on-year increase of 300%, of which the installed capacity in September was 0.7gwh, a year-on-year increase of 250%, a slight increase month on month.
Recently, GuoXuan high tech said on the interactive platform that the company has successfully loaded 300wh / kg high specific energy battery into passenger cars, adding momentum to the company's "three yuan" strategy. In terms of lithium iron phosphate battery, GuoXuan high tech said, "the 210wh / kg lithium iron phosphate battery product line is currently under commissioning and is expected to be mass produced by the end of this year.
At present, GuoXuan high tech has built eight production bases in Hefei headquarters, Hefei Economic Development Zone, Lujiang, Nanjing, Qingdao, Tangshan, Nantong, Liuzhou and other places in China. It is expected that the production capacity will reach 28gwh by the end of this year (including 23gwh of lithium iron phosphate and 5gwh of ternary production capacity), and exceed 300gwh by 2025.
Top9、AESC
From January to September this year, AESC's global power battery installed capacity reached 2.9gwh, with a market share of 1.5%, a year-on-year increase of 11.5%, of which the installed capacity in September was 0.3gwh, a year-on-year decrease of 8.2%.
AESC was originally a power battery business company under Nissan and was acquired by China Vision Group in 2018.
At present, vision power has built six power battery production bases in France, the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan and China, with a total planned capacity of more than 140gwh. Among them, the existing capacity includes 2.6gwh in Kanagawa base in Japan, 3gwh in Tennessee in the United States, 1.9gwh in Sunderland in the United Kingdom, and 20gwh in Wuxi base in China.
Vision power is also the main force in the expansion of production this year. In August, it announced that it would build 18gwh capacity with Nissan in Tokyo, in July, it announced that it would build 25-35gwh capacity with Nissan in Sunderland, UK, in June, it announced that it would build 24-40gwh capacity in duet, France, and in March, it announced that it would build 20gwh power and energy storage capacity in Inner Mongolia.
In 2021, vision power has reached strategic cooperation with world-famous car companies Renault group and Nissan to provide them with high-quality power battery products.
Recently, vision energy and vision power, two companies of vision technology group, have obtained strategic financing of more than US $600 million from Chunhua capital. This financing will be mainly used for globalization, scientific and technological research and development, as well as the follow-up development of its wind power, energy storage, battery and other businesses. It is reported that this financing is the highest amount in the current carbon neutral investment boom.

From January to September this year, PEVE's global power battery installed capacity reached 1.9gwh, with a market share of 1%, a year-on-year increase of 26.7%, of which the installed capacity fell out of the top 10 in September, which has been PEVE's failure for two consecutive months in a single month.
PEVE was established in 1996 by a joint venture between Toyota and Panasonic, of which Toyota contributed 80.5% and Panasonic contributed 19.5%. It mainly produces hybrid vehicle batteries and is assembled on Toyota's hybrid vehicles such as "Prius".
